Why does my LED light blink?
Why does my LED light blink?
The first reason is of course that your bulb may be defective.
In order to check if this trouble comes from the bulb, we advise you to replace
the blinking bulb with a bulb working properly. Be careful of course to cut off
the power during the exchange of the bulbs. If the second bulb is also
flickering, the problem comes from the electrical circuit or the socket.
Conversely, if the second bulb works properly you will certainly replace this
bulb.
Depending on the geographical location and the time of day,
it may happen that some LED bulbs start to flicker, to make a kind of slight
tremor in the lighting that disappears after a few moments. What is the origin
of this slight flicker?
What is the influence of this change of tension?
An LED bulb operates in a very specific voltage and
intensity range. When one deviates from this range, the operation is no longer
optimal. To regulate these parameters, a bulb is equipped with an electronic
circuit with a component that ensures a stable voltage and intensity. However,
when the input voltage is outside the range 220/240 Volts, these components can
no longer ensure the voltage and the ideal intensity which is intended to cause
a blinking of the bulb. Some LED bulbs are limited to 220 / 240V, others have
wider entry ranges i.e. 175 / 265V these bulbs are much less prone to flicker.
Does this phenomenon degrades the life of the LED?
No, this flicker is not harmful to the life of your LED
lamp. It only reflects an output of the input voltage of the 220/240 Volt range
at which the bulb via its electronic circuit must fit.
Does this phenomenon occur with other light sources? Yes,
flickering also occurs with halogen bulbs, incandescent or compact fluorescent
but is generally imperceptible to the human eye.
How to prevent this flicker?
If you live in a region that is highly subject to voltage
deviation, you can install MR16 12Volt bulbs which, unlike a conventional E27
bulb, have the input voltage and are regulated by a 12V DC power supply. This
installation change will solve the whole problem. You can also opt for light
bulbs 175 / 265V, for example, this bulb E27 12W better quality.
